This scenario is set in Middle-Earth, in Third Age 1640, at the time of the war between Angmar
and Arthedain.
After the Norther Dnadan kingdom of Arnor was split into three domains, the Dnedain divided.
Arthedain was the strongest kingdom, were the Numenorean tradition was still alive. At thsi time
Argeleb II ruled his people, guiding it against the Angmarean forces.
Cardolan lied in southern Eriador. After T.A. 1409, when the last King was killed in battle
against Angmar, the kingdom was divided into independent princedoms, ruled by the Hiri, while
the capital of Tharbad organized under the rule of the Canotar, emissary of Gondor, and
the Guilds, that held the real power in the city.
Rhudaur fell under the Shadow, and as the last Dnadan lords survived in the Angle, the Hillmen
took the power, supported by Angmar.
The Dwarves prospered in their cities of Khazad-dm, and in the Ered Luin, and the Elves in
Lindon, Rivendell and Northern Mirkwood.
Angmar worked in the North, preparing the ruin of the Eriadorian kingdoms.

ARTHEDAIN:
This is what today remains of the Northern Dnadan kingdom of Arnor. Weakened by the Plague
and threatened by Angmar, it is still the main power in Northern Middle Earth.

If you play the Arthedain, you will face many problems: a large kingdom in desparate economic
and financial crisis, lacking people due to the Great Plague of T.A. 1636, and under attack by
Angmar.
The main objective is to survive until 1974, when a fleet from Gondor would bring help to wipe
out the Angmarean threat.

ANGMAR:
Risen in the 1300s, the Kingdom of Angmar aims at conquering the whole North, submitting the Free
Peoples, especially the Dnedain of Arthedain and the Elves. The Witch King, allied to the
Ashburduk of Mount Gundabad, mantains a loose control on many Orkish tribes, that serve him
in his wars.

Angmar should first consolidate its power in the northern Misty Mountains, then releasing its
full attack strenght on one enemy, to wipe out any resistance and expand. A key element to
victory is knowledge: advancing in the game, Angmar will have availability of new and powerful
units, such as Trolls or Easterling riders. Some unique units, obtained through knowledge,
will also be important if used well.
The main objective of the Angmarim is to conquer the Arthedain cities of Fornost, Annminas
and Amon Sl before 1974, when Gondor will send a fleet to help the northern King.

ELVES:
In the mid Third Age, the Elves are a fading people. Only in Lindon to the west, and in northern
Mirkwood beyond the Mountains they mantain a good force. Other small settlements survive in
Imladris (Rivendell), home to Elrond Halfelven, and Lrien, ruled by King Amroth.
Although small in number, the Elves represent still a major power, being capable of forming
small but skilled armies and face the Angmarean menace.

Playing the Elves, would involve little building and growing, as they cannot create Settler units
- they are too few to expand settlements or found new ones. The player will control, instead, a
unique hero unit, Haldir: using it to accomplish some missions given, will permit to free the
captive maiden Aerin and obtain some unique military units.

DWARVES:
The Dwarves have little role in the scenario: they control the capital of Hadhodrond (Khazad-dm),
and two other cities on the Blue Mountains. In the Third Age they preferred to stand apart from
wars, trading from their mountain strongholds, occasionally founding settlements in remote areas.

RHUDAUR
In Rhudaur the Dnadan dynasty extinguished, leaving the place to local leaders. In 1640, the
Hillmen Broggha claims the crown, mantaining a loose control on Hillmen tribes and receiving the
help of the Witch King, to whom he is allied.

TINAR
The Hirdor of Tinar is one of the fiefs of Cardolan. Although formally allied to Arthedain, old
Hir Hallas rules autonomally his lands, dreaming to make his people return to the ancient glory
of rich and crowded cities.

GIRITHLIN
As Tinar, Girithlin is a formal ally of Arthedain, but Regent Earnil actually hopes to expand
its dominions, conquering the Hillmen kingdom of Saralainn to the South, and then unify
Cardolan under its rule. There is much tension with the rival Tinar, that could bring to war
very soon.
